Lately, this country has been battered with severe weather. Just before Christmas most of the airports were shut down and the motorways were at a standstill because of extremely heavy fog. A few weeks later there was an extremely severe windstorm that lasted almost two weeks. At some points it reached velocities of 80-90mph, blowing in windows, knocking down small structures, bringing down what seemed to be almost a third of the trees, sinking ships just off the coast, and killing over twenty people. Severe.

A couple of days ago, we were bracing ourselves for the next bit of severe weather to come our way. The Americas were sending winter over the Atlantic, and we were hearing of frostbite reports from New York and Toronto. Very scary. The radio and television reports were to expect the worst, with blizzard conditions, extreme cold, and a severe weather warning was issued. Don't, if it isn't absolutely imperative, leave your home.

And the weather came.

Many people didn't go to work. Schools closed. The motorways were empty. There were accidents everywhere for those who chose to travel. The road ploughs couldn't keep up. The trains were all delayed. ALL of the airports were closed. It was the end of the world, almost.

That was yesterday. Today the snow is completely gone. The blizzard was what we would call a light flurry. The side-streets were slushy (being a freezing 0.5C), but the main roads were clear. There is only one conclusion you can come up with: this place is full of wussies. Ok,ok, so none of the cars here have all weather tires, but still. It's far worse than when Vancouver gets a little snow. This was nearly panic. What a silly place this is.

Haha... What a bunch of whimps... Oh well, whose to blame them. If they never, ever get snow there, it would be a big deal. But, to think, just a year ago the "theory" of global warming and severe climate change was just the sniveling chicken little like cries of tree-hugging hippies and spinless emoting lefties. How times change.
